Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

Virtual reality has become increasingly popular in our current time and it seems like everyone is trying to get their hands on one to try it out. Virtual worlds are used for much more than just entertainment though as they can be used for military training, entertainment through video games, and other training as well whether medical or anything hands on. There are many pros and cons to virtual worlds. The pros include preparing people for a job or task such as with military training which can help save lives. The cons include its difficult to make it very realistic so far and it is very costly to create the right worlds. Virtual worlds foster so much creativity and an example includes using it in the workplace. According to the CNN article, Going to the virtual office in the second life by Mark Tutton, "Virtual community Second Life is seeking to tap into that market by creating a new tool that allows businesses to have virtual meetings on their own computer networks." This is very interesting as people are going to have meetings together in a virtual atmosphere which is very creative and interactive. Also according to the article, "After Second Life, can virtual world get a reboot?" by Diana Mehta, it states that "the newest virtual worlds and next generation of web browsers are going to be fully 3D enabled." This goes to show that the business field is changing ass well towards it. I believe that the future of virtual worlds will be very important as it will be used in colleges for learning, used in the workplace, and used for entertainment at home as well with interactive virtual reality gaming that is going to only get better.
